June 2016

Grow Dalton News

2016 Dalton Music Festival ~ June Report:
Steve Sears went to Select Board meeting and announced the 2016 Dalton Music Festival!

The intent will to bring people to Dalton Businesses and locations for fun, food & music for Saturday August 27th. On Friday night the 26th we will have a kick off concert at the Stationery Factory. Proceeds will go to benefit the CBRSD Music Programs. Each venue who wants to participate will be advertised through our media outreach, receive help with all aspects of the music end and receive any marketing stuff we come up with. We hope to get Berkshire Organics, The CRA, Kelly’s, Holiday Farm and others involved.

Our current volunteers are:
Greg Geyer - coordinate stages/sound and musicians
Holly Rogers - legal (we decided that will organize as a Not for Profit 501 C #; at this point we are not exactly sure what type fits Grow Dalton best. We will need positions filled for this designation)
Eric Shepherd - media & design
Steve Sears - finance - for now, agreed to set up bank account. We could really use an accountant for this area

We still are looking for people to help with:
1. Outreach coordinator to contact Dalton Businesses to see who wants to be involved or help in some way - sponsor, food, advertising etc.
2. Coordinator of food & vendors
3. Liaison with the Town of Dalton for permits and licenses
4. General assistance with everything!

The Dalton Music Festival is now an official project and will be holding weekly planning meetings at The Stationery Factory. We welcome anyone interested in volunteering to help make this a successful event! If you are interested please plan on attending or contact Steve Sears at steve@stationery-factory.com or Greg Geyer at greg.a.geyer@gmail.com.

Please keep in mind that this event evolves as we discuss it, so bring your ideas and your willingness to roll up your sleeves to help us create the 2016 Dalton Music Festival! This year is the trial year with no expectations of size or scope: just a great little (or medium?) sized event for our town and the community.  Also, please share this information with anyone who may be interested in actively helping out!

Other Grow Dalton Items of Discussion:
  1.  Dalton becoming an AT Community - and the possibility of a visit and talk from a US Park Service person on August 1st.
  2. The need to have the Communications Group create a community calendar, among other things.
  3. TIF for the Stationery Factory has been approved at the Special Town Meeting on Monday evening.
  4. Looking for people willing to serve on the Board of Grow Dalton as it becomes a 501 C. Holly Rogers has agreed to be the Clerk.

Join us as we . . .  Grow Dalton!
